Tugu Yogyakarta
Tugu is a memorial or monument that is often used as a symbol or emblem of the city of Yogyakarta. This monument was built by Hamengkubuwana I, founder of the palace of Yogyakarta. Monument, located at the intersection of Jalan Sudirman and Jalan Margo Utomo, has a symbolic value and a magical line that connects the southern sea, the palace of Yogyakarta and Mount Merapi. At the time of meditation, said to the Sultan of Yogyakarta at the time use this monument as a benchmark direction facing the peak of Mount Merapi.
This monument now is one of the objects of tourism Yogya, and is often known as the "monument of white pal" (pal also means monument), because the paint colors used since the first was white. Pal monument is elliptical with a small ball and a sharp corner at the top. Of Yogyakarta Kingdom if we look to the north, then we will find that the Jalan Malioboro, Margo Utomo Street, this monument, and Jalan AM Sangadji will form a straight line exactly the way to the peak of Mount Merapi.
